Soot Sprites aka Susuwatari (すすワタリ) are little black creatures who appear in Ghibli movies. The first time I saw them was in My Neighbor Totoro and the second time was in Spirited Away. Both movies are favourites of mine.

Now today's topic is "Coal" which if I'm going to be honest, is not exactly inspiring to me.

But when you incorporate Ghibli elements, things suddenly become a lot more interesting.

So that's what I did today. A single soot sprite carrying a lump of coal. Like in Spirited Away, but in my own style. I really like the outcome.
